welcome to della-Porta design Ltd

about us - Joe della-Porta . Founder

Our furniture design is really a story of ‘East meets West’, as I am totally inspired by the refinement of Japanese craftsmanship and the unique way this can fuse with Western culture.  These qualities shine through each commission – which is then brought further to life by adding a reflection of our client’s personality.

We strive to create something unique and extraordinary every time, and are passionate about challenging the client’s brief so the finished piece exceeds their expectations.  For me, the excitement and satisfaction lies in creating work with an inherent presence that I know will be cherished and looked after for years to come.

I have always admired the discipline and simplicity of Japanese art and design.  So, after training as a carpenter and joiner in London, I travelled to Japan to study the art of traditional Japanese house building – being taught by a Master.  On returning to England, I was awarded a place to study at the world-renowned Parnham College, run by John Makepeace.  After graduating in 1996, I established “della-Porta design Limited”.

Coming from an Italian family of artisans, I also draw on the disciplines of my two brothers – one a US-based sculptor and the other, a UK-based industrial product design engineer, to create unique pieces which blend natural and man-made materials.

The ever changing market, influenced by trends, has enabled us to create a wide portfolio of projects – ranging from individual pieces of free-standing furniture such as cabinets, tables and bookcases, to grander projects of ‘fitted’ items, such as hand-made wardrobes and kitchens.  We work with clients to design a solution that really suits their lifestyle – managing the entire project if required.  Here again, we always strive to create beautiful signature pieces that stand out from the crowd and tell their own story…
